Mai-Wel is the regions leader in NDIS support and employment pathways for individuals in the disability and youth streams. With over 65 years serving our community this is an organisation with people at it's core and delivering for disadvantaged.
As providers of Disability Employment Services (DES) and Workforce Australia – Transition to Work(TTW), they support individuals with disabilities and young people in their employment journeys.
The Purpose:
As a Youth Support Mentor, you’ll be more than just a guide— Your role is to coach, mentor and support young people aged 15-24, helping them navigate the path to education and employment.
Through the Transition to Work (TTW) program, you’ll provide intensive pre-employment support, helping participants build practical skills, overcome barriers, connect with educational opportunities, and find local jobs. Once they’re on their way, you’ll stick around to ensure they stay on track toward long-term success.
The Role:
Based in our Maitland and Cessnock offices, you’ll be at the heart of a team that’s passionate about transforming lives. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Provide vocational guidance to participants.
- Help participants identify and achieve their vocational and employment goals through Job Plans.
- Maintain participant engagement and connect them to specialist support services.
- Utilise government incentives to facilitate capacity building through education and training.
- Provide one-on-one and group training programs.
- Ensure effective reporting and communication.
- Work towards sustainable employment outcomes for participants.
We are looking for someone who:
- Thrives on meaningful conversations with young people in need of guidance and support.
- Has a knack for writing standout resumes and creating employment pathways for youth with little or no experience.
- Is dedicated, creative, and passionate about helping young people succeed.
- Communicates effectively and is an empathetic listener.
- Keeps a pulse on the local labour market and can connect participants with the right opportunities.
- Is confident delivering employability skills workshops/programs in both one-on-one and group settings, in collaboration with local employers.
- Can juggle a diverse caseload and handle multiple priorities.
- Is tech-savvy with strong administrative and computer skills.
- Holds a current driver’s license and can obtain necessary clearances (Working with Children, Criminal History, NDIS Worker Screening).
